SYNOPSIS

MEMORIES OF THE WIND von Özcan Alper erzählt die Geschichte des armenischen Dissidenten Aram im 2. Weltkrieg in der Türkei. Er muss vor der Regierung fliehen ins Exil Richtung Georgien. Dort trifft er auf die junge Mereyem, Ehefrau seines Fluchthelfers, die gegen ihren Willen bei ihrem Mann lebt. Das Ehepaar gewährt Aram Unterschlupf, doch schon bald wird die Situation zwischen dem Trio unerträglich. Arams Exil ist zugleich ein Gefängnis, aber schließlich auch die Möglichkeit zur Befreiung. 

MEMORIES OF THE WIND tells the story of Aram, a translator and painter who escapes from Istanbul for political reasons to save his life during the II. World War. That escape becomes a search for the traces of lost times of Aram’s childhood. He is stuck in a forest village at the Soviet-Georgian border by the Black Sea. The challenge to survive in the nature confronts Aram with memories and themes like love, time, death, exile, homeland, borders, freedom. The life in the wilderness also makes him realize once again the political and cultural atmosphere of the period he is living in.
